Animator Carson Mell Showcase–Aug 28 in SF
SF360 FILM+CLUB: CARSON MELL: DISPATCHES FROM DIMENSION X A night of hilarious animation at Mezzanine on August 28
SF360 Film+Club, the San Francisco Film Society’s monthly social screening series that was chosen the Best Dance-Floor Flick Fix by the editors of the San Francisco Bay Guardian’s Best of the Bay 2008, is back at Mezzanine Thursday, August 28, with Carson Mell: Dispatches from Dimension X, a showcase of work by Carson Mell, a singular, hilarious and wildly creative talent in animation. We expect Mell to be in attendance and to participate in a Q+A after the screening.
Tickets are $8 with an RSVP to sf360@sffs.org or $12 at the door. Doors will open at 7:00 pm with the screening starting at 7:30 pm. This event is 21+.
Take equal parts country-rock star, science-fiction writer, undersexed adolescent and uncomfortable malcontent and you merely crack the door leading to Carson Mell’s creative world. Mell will be in person to present his animations and music videos and read from his recently completed illustrated novel Saguaro. The novel chronicles the life and times of ex-rock star Bobby Bird, the fictional protagonist of a few of Mell’s short films. After Mell appeared with screenings of Chonto at this year’s San Francisco International Film Festival, we were repeatedly asked how one could see the rest of his work. Here’s the chance. As Elston Gunn of Ain’t It Cool News writes, “hop on the cusp of an American original” and check out this new and hilarious talent.
SF360 Film+Club is presented by the San Francisco Film Society and Mezzanine. Mezzanine is located at 444 Jessie St. Past events include Mad for Manchester, R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet Sing Along, Wholphin and Knife: Silent Shout — An Audiovisual Experience.
